The government is snooping through all our communication and personal data. In response, we are supposed to feel outraged.
But there is really nothing new here. While we might not know all the intricate details, we already know that this is happening. One could argue that it’s even expected. We already knowingly relinquish our privacy when we sign up for google email accounts. Google already reads our email, tracks our internet behavior and allows ‘personalized’ banner ads to follow us around. So why would it be surprising that the government is engaging in cloud surveillance? Or that AT&T and other telecom companies allow the government to have wiretapping access?
Sure it’s still creepy to read about, but is it enough to stop using the internet or the cloud? Or explore other off the grid alternatives? For most of us, probably not.
This article is meant to be provocative. But nothing new and surprising was presented and no final point is ever delivered. I guess that’s in Part II?
