I agree that being a coder/programmer/web developer is beneficial in many ways. The job is well needed today as technologies grow rapidly. Somers compares himself to his sister who was academically successful but did not end up having a great job. I then had a thought if one can be successful (in terms of having a great job and be successful in career) without needing to do well in academics. I wonder if this is because technologies are dominating our culture therefore jobs like lawyers, accountancies, etc., is no longer needed because one doesn’t need to be “smart” in academics to be successful. Because even Somers’ friend parted away from law school to being a coder and could get paid for a lot of money. Somer himself was also at first only playing around with coding but it made him to what he had now with all his valuables.
