Fay’s Reading Response #4

What are the positive features of A-culture? From learning about A-culture through this treatise, I’m struggling to find any compelling attributes.

Briefly, what I’ve learned about A-culture includes:
– trolling (and now I’ve been indirectly trolled since I started to look up the terms, and I am completely offended)
– a culture that condones and encourages obscenity, hostility and open hate
– a forum where all communication is deemed untrustworthy or suspect
– and most disturbing of all, this is mostly all done for sport

If someone objects to this behavior they become the new target. It becomes a cycle of internet hazing.

In theory and concept, I can understand the desire for an anonymous forum where you can come as you are, be free from lasting repercussions and commune with compatriots of similar interests. But that is really not what A-culture is about, or has become (at least based on this treatise).

A-culture is a penalty-free playground for breeding vulgarity, hate, offensive and deplorable behavior with little consequence. It is depravity for the sake of play. This community of ‘shared interests’ is something I will never stand behind.
